TJ’s Dwellings is a Portland-based, boutique design & build studio creating spaces that reflect the people who live in them - through thoughtful collaboration, custom craftsmanship, and a genuine love for the work. Our work is rooted in the belief that cool homes should be attainable, interesting, and unmistakably yours. That home can feel both beautiful and deeply livable. Our work blends creative vision with hands-on craftsmanship, where thoughtful interiors meet custom woodwork and practical construction knowledge.
We are passionate about creating interesting, cool work that serves a purpose and makes our clients lives better. A creative thought that constantly lingers is the idea of proof of life design. It's not trendy, it's not repetitive, it’s not sterile, and it doesn't just mean using materials that patina - it's about creating a space that acts as proof of life for the people who live within that space. Giving them a canvas to create the life they want within the spaces we design.
We’re inspired by people, place, and history. We love natural materials, handmade fixtures and furniture, and choosing what will last whenever we can. We design and build spaces that tell the story of your real life - layered, intentional, and crafted to support the way you want to live.

We are the founders and team behind TJ’s Dwellings. Our story began pre-pandemic when we met working in the world of advertising. We were both drawn to more creative pursuits and a profession that better matched our world views, values and our need to interact with nature. So we decided to test our relationship early on and quit our jobs, left the place we called home, and moved into a 40 SQ FT van with no shower and our giant, anxious dog Levi, may he rest in peace. After surviving our crash-course in pre-matrimony, we decided we could pretty much do anything so long as we did it together. So, we tested that theory once more and committed to following our dreams. We sold our van, bought an old abandoned dairy farm in Corbett, OR, continued converting vans & vintage travel trailers, got certified in permaculture, acquired some sheep, chickens, more dogs, renovated our home & workshop, got certified in sustainable interior design, acquired our general contractors license, and eventually, we realized we never had to go back.
We are deeply grateful to pursue our passions and have a genuine love for the work we get to do.
WHAT WE BELIVE IN
THIS IS PERSONAL
Designing a home means being invited into someone’s life, and that’s not a responsibility we take lightly. When you welcome us in, we’re not just there to design. We’re there to connect, to care and to co-create something that feels like you. This work is deeply personal, for you and for us.
PROOF OF LIFE DESIGN
We believe your home should reflect your rhythms, nourish your routines and hold space for who you are and how you live. To us that means designing spaces that leave room for your life.
SOURCED WITH INTENTION
Whether it’s the food on our table or the materials in our homes, knowing the story behind what we bring into our lives matters. We support local makers, uplift artists, reclaim the forgotten, and choose what lasts whenever we can.
CREATIVE COURAGE
Good design is born from curiosity and courage, not repetition or trend. We're here to encourage experimentation, embrace the “what if” and remind people that creativity doesn’t have to be polished to be powerful - especially in our homes.
HANDMADE
We find beauty in the storied, the passed-down and the hand-touched. We choose patina over polish and character over perfection. Timelessness and the possibility of new life are always present in our builds and designs.
